Social Work major Melanie Kedl is finishing up her senior practicum and keeps very busy with that, a job and a one-year-old daughter.

Kim Guenther believes in the importance of the Marshall Farmer's Market, and her efforts have resulted in a dramatic increase in community/region involvement in the weekly market, which sets up on Saturdays in the Schwan's Company parking lot north of the Marshall Area YMCA.

Christine Olson, Professor of Applied Psychology, is the 2018 recipient of the Cathy Cowan Award, the most prestigious honor at SMSU. The award goes to a faculty or staff member who has made great contributions to SMSU and the region.

Six individuals will receive Alumni Association awards at a Friday, Oct. 5 noon luncheon in the Conference Center Ballroom on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.

New International Student Services Director Juan Tavares has an interesting background, and feels the entire SMSU community should get involved with recruiting and retaining students from other countries.

SMSU senior Mu Mu Aye recently received a $500 Mark M. Welter World Citizen Award through the Minnesota State system. She was one of 20 students in the Minnesota State system to receive the award, which is given to "students in good academic standing who have demonstrated a keen awareness of our interconnected world."

Scott Ewing, Assistant Director of Student Activities, is an experienced hand when it comes to Homecoming. Celebrating his 25th year with SMSU this December, Ewing has had his fair share of planning and coordinating the special Homecoming events that students enjoy during the week leading up to the football showdown on Saturday night, Oct. 6.

SMSU will host a number of youth sports camps this summer.
